It has different meanings and different compositions around the world and even here in Waterloo Region, but everyone can agree that a hot toddy is a soothing, warming and delicious winter beverage.

Traditionally a hot water- or tea-based drink laced with alcohol and liberally and variously spiced, a toddy is often touted as a tonic to alleviate symptoms of a cold or flu. But the medical myth of the toddy aside, the drink is surely able to provide welcome relief on cold, wintry nights.

Here are a few hot toddies that you can sip in Waterloo Region. (Please check with individual venues, as menus may change frequently.)

Cloved Toddy: house-infused orange clove vodka, orange juice, lemon juice, honey pepper simple syrup, hot tea water and orange wedge.

Beertown (Cambridge and Waterloo)
Coffee ‘n’ Porter: Bailey’s Irish Cream, Jameson’s, Charcoal Porter beer reduction, coffee and whipped cream.

Hot Toddy: Jim Beam, honey and hot water. Simple and classic.

Jane Bond
Classic hot apple cider and several mulled wines. But try the Hot Tub Boogaloo with brandy, Grand Marnier, hot apple cider and cinnamon.

Rum Raisin Toddy: buttered raisin syrup, citrus, Kraken black and spiced rum.
