Every year, the Kultrún World Music Festival puts community development, social justice, and national pride centre stage. This free festival in Kitchener’s Victoria Park is a celebrated space for thousands of attendees to enjoy dozens of local, national, and international artists. Some of the countries represented in the festival are Zimbabwe, Turkey, Bali, Mexico, South Africa, Syria, Philippines, and many more, as well as First Nations and francophone artists from Canada.

This outdoor festival brings together many different cultures, and provides an enhanced understanding of the Canadian identity, an elevated sense of civic pride, and a greater respect for Canadian values and ideals.

Some artists lined up for the 2017 festival include, Ekhaya Band, Juneyt and band, the Balinese Gamelan Ensemble, Good Hearted Women, Amanda Martinez, Welcome Soleil, Vivaldi Dula, and many more. For a full list of the lineup, visit

In addition to great international music, there are dozens of interactive activities scheduled, such as Aaron Bell Storyteller, Thames dancers, Trash Theatre, ukulele jam, and more. 

Take in the conversation during the symposium on the topic of what kind of Canada we want to leave for our children and the next generations. Many of the people who have come from all over the world to make Canada their home will discuss their thoughts and wishes for the community and share inspirational conversation with leaders from Waterloo Region and beyond.
