It’s March, and that means we’re just days away from March Break 2019. While kids are excitedly counting down the days, parents can be a little more stressed as they try to figure out how to keep the family busy!

Whether you’re looking for some daily ‘stay-cation’ fun, or a camp to fill the kids’ days, here are some ideas to help your family make the most of March Break!

Day Camps

The sooner you book the better: many of these day camps are in high demand. The good news is there’s a lot of variety: the bad news is it might be difficult to choose just one!

  1. Relish Cooking Studio March Break Fundamentals of Cooking Camp – designed to help kids ages 10 – 14 be more comfortable in the kitchen!
  2. Clay & Glass Gallery March Break Art Camp – creative play from 9 am to 4:30 pm daily
  3. Wilmot Recreation Complex March Break Camp – includes sports, science, crafts and drama; 9 am to 4 pm daily. There’s also Public Skating daily in the arena.
  4. There are lots of camps and things to do in the City of Cambridge this March Break including skating, swimming – even Babysitting courses!
  5. Kitchener Waterloo Art Gallery “Art Escape” March Break Camp – kids unleash their creativity and learn new skills; 9 am to 4:30 pm daily
  6. Kingpin Cambridge has special March Break Camps with bowling, Rocks & Ropes Course, arts and crafts, games, outdoor time (weather dependent).
  7. Airborne Trampoline KW March Break Camp – offers a unique experience that combines one-on-one lessons with daily field outings and shows; 9 am to 5 pm daily
  8. Chicopee Ski offers a 5 day Ski Camp over March Break for skiiers and snow boarders of all abilities
  9. Cambridge Centre for the Arts March Break Camps – offering an Art and Science Lab for ages 6 – 10, and Willy Wonka and the Chocolate Factory for ages 8 – 12; 9 am to 4 pm daily
  10. Kitchener Market ‘Kids in the Kitchen’ March Break Camp – leaders and chefs teach your little chefs about basic cooking and nutrition, along with crafts and other activities; 9 am to 4 pm daily
  11. Kitchener Waterloo Humane Society March Break Camp: a fun-filled week of animal themed activities for children currently in grades 1 through 6; 9 am to 4 pm daily
  12. rare March Break ECO Camp – an outdoor camp experience at rare Charitable Research Reserve; 9 am to 5 pm daily
  13. Conestogo River Horseback Adventures March Break Camp– horseback riding lessons, horse-related crafts, and games; 9 am to 4 pm daily
  14. THEMUSEUM has its Synapses Stimulation March Break camp, inspired by its exhibit BRAIN: The World Inside Your Head
  15. The YMCAs of Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge offer a number of different day camps, and an overnight camp too!
  16. Kids in grades 1 – 6 can be part of the University of Waterloo’s March Break programming, which includes the Engineering Science Quest’s March Break program
  17. Brick Works Academy offers several March Break Camps all themed around LEGO!

Daily Fun during March Break

There’s lots happening in the region all week long! Grab your calendar and get ready to start filling your days with these great ideas:

  1. There’s free skating at the North Dumfries Community Complex from Monday to Friday during March Break. 10 am to noon daily (2 – 4 pm Wednesday only)
  2. Drayton Entertainment has family fun happening at the Hamilton Family Theatre with the March Break Solo Circus!
  3. Have some early risers on your hands? Take them to Kingpin between 9AM to 11AM and bowl for a special Early Bird rate! Early Bird Bowling is available at both Kitchener and Cambridge locations! Book online.
  4. Experience some ‘virtual’ fun at Mirage VR
  5. Cambridge Ice Centre presents “Carnival Day” on Wednesday, March 13th featuring free skating, entertainment and more
  6. Homer Watson House & Gallery has March Break Madness where kids can draw, paint, try their hand at pottery and more!
  7. Kitchener Market has a special March Break Kids’ Hop happening, especially designed for the wee ones
  8. St. Jacobs & Aberfoyle Model Railway is open daily during March Break for big fun on a small scale (“O” scale, to be exact!)
  9. McDougall Cottage offers a March Break Craft Bonanza for the Wee Ones on Wednesday, March 13th, as well as Tea with Granny on Friday, March 15th
  10. Take a St. Jacobs Horse Drawn Tours Maple Sugar Bush Tour. Tours leave from their booth at the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market – so plan some extra time to explore the Market District while you’re there (and maybe pick up an apple fritter or two!)
  11. It’s March Break Madness at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum, where kids can become space explorers through daily activities and hands on fun
  12. Enjoy some time outdoors at Chicopee Tube Park , where they’re offering March Break Madness from 4 – 6 p.m. daily!
  13. Take in some exciting professional basketball action – the KW Titans have 2 home games during March Break!
  14. Or, if hockey is more your game, the Kitchener Rangers also have 2 home games that the family can take in during March Break!
  15. It’s a Southwest theme at this year’s BugFeast at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory (are you brave enough to eat a bug??)
  16. Why not hit the Trails in Waterloo Region? Walk, cross country ski, fat bike or snowshoe – it’s a great way to get out and enjoy the outdoors!
  17. Schneider Haus National Historic Site features daily programs including Earth Tracks Outdoor School, and Prehistoric Graffiti Art
  18. It’s a Colourful week at THEMUSEUM, with lots of programming themed around Colour (inspired by it’s current SPECTRUM exhibit)
  19. Head over to Conestoga Mall and take in Canstruction® Waterloo Region  – a fundraiser for the Food Bank of Waterloo Region
  20. There’s March Break Fun happening at Castle Kilbride, where kids can see how the Livingston’s played in the late 1800’s (try the toys that are located throughout the castle)!
  21. Descendants Beer & Beverage Co. is hosting a Harry Potter Kids’ Trivia evening especially for the 12 and under group. Parents are welcome too!
  22. Ready for some indoor paintball fun? Then Flagraiders Paintball is ready for you!
  23. Max’s Sports World is Home of the Dome, and to lots of fun and activities
  24. The City of Waterloo offers a number of programs and events throughout March Break, including skating, swimming and Youth Shinny!
