On Stage

If you’re looking for some laughs, Drayton Entertainment presents Elf – The Musical at the Hamilton Family Theatre in Cambridge. (Don’t forget, “The best way to spread Christmas cheer is singing loud for all to hear.”)
Speaking of music, the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony’s annual Yuletide Spectacular has become a holiday tradition for many. This year’s event is sure to put both of you in the holiday mood with the story of The Nutcracker for narrator and orchestra, and beautiful projected images by Canadian illustrator Rajka Kupesic.
And, over at Centre In The Square, Serena Ryder brings her “Christmas Kisses” tour to the stage – perfect for a holiday date night!
An Old-Fashioned Christmas on the Farm
Start a holiday tradition at Snyder’s Farm! Bring your camera to capture all your instagrammable moments, as the two of you enjoy an old fashioned Christmas at the farm. Snuggle up on a Christmas Hayride, warm up around the fire and enjoy unlimited S’more roasting, and choose one of Snyder’s fresh cut Christmas trees to take home with you. Don’t forget to stop by the Bakery to pick up some sweets for your sweetie, and do some holiday shopping at the Gift Barn.

An Enchanted Evening in a Castle

If spending an evening together at a festively decorated castle sounds like the perfect holiday night out for the two of you, then make sure to plan a stop at Baden’s Castle Kilbride.
During the holidays this 1877 home is lavishly decorated to depict a traditional Victorian Christmas, and it’s open for the public to enjoy. Don’t forget to head up to the belvedere to take in Herner’s Victorian Village – more than 130 miniature buildings and figurines inspired by real-life locations from the stories of Charles Dickens. It’s truly magical!

Get “Crafty”
Think we’re talking about painting and origami? Wrong! The ‘craft’ we’re talking about involves Craft Beer, and in Cambridge, Four Fathers Brewing Co. invites you to a Christmas Themed Trivia Night on December 17th! Make it a date night for the 2 of you, or invite friends for a double date night and be a team of 4. You’ll be put to the test by resident MC and Trivia Master, Matt Miller. There are prizes to be won, beer to be drank, and mind boggling questions to be answered!

Date Night in a One Horse Open Sleigh
It’s a typical Christmas card scene: the picture of a horse drawn sleigh dashing through the snow with a couple snuggled side by side in the back enjoying the ride. Take this romantic image and turn it into a holiday reality with St. Jacobs Horse Drawn Tours. Book your own small sleigh for a 45 minute sleigh ride through the beautiful countryside in Woolwich Township. After your ride you can warm up around the wood stove in their rustic sugar shack, and enjoy a hot apple cider together. Make sure to take a nice selfie of the two of you together in the sleigh – and use the picture to create your own holiday cards!

Skate Nights and Bright Lights
A romantic evening skate under the stars is a great way to spend time together. Kitchener, Waterloo and Cambridge all feature outdoor skating rinks – and, they’re free (leaving you with extra spending money for a post-skating beverage!)
There are also several holiday light displays the two of you can either wander or drive through. Wonders of Winter is a festival of lights that happens in Waterloo Park. You can walk through the displays, or take in the lights while enjoying a horse drawn trolley ride.
Kitchener’s Victoria Park is home to Christmas Fantasy – a spectacular display of festive lights that adorn Victoria Park’s buildings, trees and bridges.
The Old Post Office in Cambridge features its Winter Holiday Light Show every Thursday through Sunday night until January 1st. The light shows are projected on to the Water St. side of the Old Post Office, and take place every hour from 7 – 9 pm.
Gift of Lights features the largest drive thru holiday light display in southwestern Ontario. Enjoy over 300 animated and static light displays from the comfort (and warmth!) of your own vehicle, as well as 2 spectacular drive-through light tunnels.
