Love is in the air across Waterloo Region this month. We’ve got the run-down on events for date nights, a romantic weekend getaway itinerary, and a Family Day road trip itinerary everyone will love. 

Downtown Kitchener Live | February 2, 9, 16, and 23 

King Street comes alive with live music from local and national music every Thursday night at THEMUSEUM (10 King. St. W.). Canadian rocker Billy Raffoul kicks off the series on February 2. Raffoul was awarded the 2021 SOCAN Songwriting Prize for his single “Western Skies.” Danny Michel, Tomb & Dom Vallie, and Begonia round out the February line-up. Stay tuned to our socials for updates on bar and restaurant specials before and after the show! 

Black History in Waterloo Region | February 5 

Discover Waterloo Region’s rich Black history and culture with the Caribbean Canadian Association of Waterloo Region’s Black History Month Launch on Sunday, February 5, at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum. It’s an all-ages interactive event featuring Black artists, authors, musicians, and entrepreneurs that celebrates and lifts up Black history in Waterloo and worldwide.  

Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony presents La Traviata | February 11 

Conductor Andrei Feher leads the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony and soloists and chorus from the Music Faculty of Wilfrid Laurier University in a production of Giuseppe Verdi’s La Traviata, a tragic Parisian romance about a woman caught between two worlds and a fatal love. Insider tip: the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony is only one of three symphonies in Canada with full-time musicians. 

Women’s Hockey Showcase | February 11 

Canada’s greatest women’s hockey players are coming to the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium for the Professional Women’s Hockey Player Association Showcase! Bring your kids to see over 125 of Canada’s best hockey stars—including over 40 Olympians—as Team Sonnet takes on Team Scotiabank. 

Romance By The Book | February 12 

Forget Fabio. Romance By The Book (RBTB) brings New York Times bestselling author Tessa Bailey to the Kitchener Public Library for 85 Queen: A Date with Tessa Bailey. RBTB’s Kayleigh Platz will be interviewing Tessa about her steamy new rom-com about a starchy professor and the bubbly neighbour he clashes with at every turn.  

Valentine’s Day After Dark Sweetheart Stroll | February 14th

Treat your Valentine to a truly special evening in paradise at the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory! Take a romantic stroll through the tropical gardens, enjoy a complimentary glass of sparkling non-alcoholic champanade while you enjoy live music. Be sure to capture the evening with a photo at the ‘Sweetheart Selfie’ station. And check out the conservatory’s new mural by award-winning artist Dominic Laporte and Anaïs Labrèque.

Kitchener Ranger’s Valentine’s Day Game | February 14 

Put your Valentine’s Day plans on ice as the Kitchener Rangers take on the London Knights. The puck drops at 7 p.m. 

The Magical World of Harry Potter – KW Symphony | February 17 & 18

Join the KWS as they take you on a trip through the magical musical world of Harry Potter. Featuring the legendary music of John Williams from across all the Harry Potter films, this is a concert for every witch, wizard, and muggle.

Family Day Weekend Heritage Train Rides February 18 & 20

Experience this scenic winter heritage train ride with the whole family! Passengers of all ages will be captivated by the wide-open view of the countryside and nearby Mennonite farms as you head northbound to Elmira.
This round-trip ride begins at either the Waterloo Northfield Station or at the Farmers Market Station.

Bedouin Soundclash | February 23 

Toronto’s own Bedouin Soundclash is playing live at The Hub in Downtown Kitchener. Get your tickets to hear their unique reggae and ska sounds. Are you looking for a bite to eat before the show? Grab a table at The Rich Uncle Tavern (45 King St. W.), and make sure you try their famous duck wings. 

Il Divo at Centre in the Square | February 25 

Classical vocal stars Il Divo perform live at Centre in the Square on Saturday, February 25. Il Divo has sold over 30 million copies of their albums worldwide, with 160 certified gold and platinum hits across 35 countries. Insider tip: pick up passes to the Member’s Lounge at Centre in the Square for the show. Enjoy a cocktail or glass of wine before the show—and they’ll have your second round ready for you at intermission. 

Mac & Cheese Festival | February 24 

This February, fill your heart with love and your stomach with cheese at THEMUSEUM’s Mac & Cheese Festival. Indulge in some warm cheesy goodness paired with tasty local craft beer samples. Comedy in the Village | February 28 

Enjoy craft beer and comedy at Arabella Park Beer Bar in Belmont Village on Tuesday, February 28. Rusty Nail Comedy is bringing you two great headliners—Paul Thompson and Chris Robinson—starting at 8 p.m. Insider tip: get to town early for dinner at Janet Lynn’s Bistro (667 Belmont Ave. W.). JLB has been serving world-class dishes to locals and visitors for almost 40 years. 

Windsor Express vs. KW Titans Basketball | March 1  

The KW Titans have their first home game of the season at the Kitchener Memorial Auditorium on Wednesday, March 1. The Titans made it to the National Basketball League of Canada finals last season—be part of the action as they take on the Windsor Express. 

Road Trip Itineraries for February

Family Day Road Trip 

This Family Day, take your crew on a weekend road trip to Waterloo Region for some great family fun!

Speaking of food, pop into Cafe du Monde Creperie in Cambridge for a specialty crêpe, pizza or specialty fresh-made waffles. Or, pop into Sugar Daddies Bakery and choose from an amazing assortment of sugar-free, keto-friendly, gluten-free treats that are guaranteed to make your taste buds happy!

After you’ve enjoyed the food and fun in Cambridge, the family can warm up with a splash in the pool back at the Holiday Inn before bundling for an evening session on the slopes at the Chicopee Tube Park. You can rent helmets onsite, so you don’t need to bring your own.

Why not catch a show the entire family is sure to love! The Drayton Entertainment Youth Academy presents Legally Blond: The Musical at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse. As Elle Wood would say, “This is going to be like senior year – only funner!”  

For a tropical finale to your road trip, check out the Cambridge Butterfly Conservatory and experience 1000s of free-flying butterflies, exotic birds, tropical insects and more. It’s the perfect warm retreat (and cheaper than heading south)!

Romantic Weekend Getaway

This year Valentine’s Day falls on a Tuesday, but let’s be honest—there’s nothing romantic about Tuesdays.

Lucky for you, Family Day Weekend is right around the corner. Make the most of the long weekend with a romantic getaway to Waterloo Region. 

Friday, February 17 

Head into Waterloo Region by car or on the GO train to start your weekend off. Book your weekend stay at The Walper Hotel in the heart of downtown. The Walper has a special Romantic Getaway Package that includes bubbly, breakfast, and other special treats. After checking in, make your way to the Grand Surf Lounge (87 Ontario St. S.) for some fantastic tiki-inspired dishes and cocktails. 

Saturday, February 18

After wandering the market, cozy up on the Waterloo Central Railway for a romantic countryside trip on one of their expertly restored classic train cars.


At the St. Jacob’s Village station, take a walk down through the shops and make sure to stop by the Fat Sparrow Block Charcuterie Bar’s Outdoor Porch Party to enjoy some smores, mulled wine, and live music from 1 to 4 p.m.

Head back to the hotel for an outfit change before heading to the Rusty Nail Comedy Club for an evening of laughs with Canadian comedy legend Glen Foster. There are shows at 7 and 9 p.m.!

After the show, book a table at The Civil (151 Charles St. W.) for wood-fired pizzas to arouse your taste buds and crafty gin concoctions you will remember.

Sunday, February 19

Before you head home, stop by The Yeti Cafe (15 Eby St.) for fuel for the ride. Their breakfast burrito is legendary and comes in a vegan version too!

Memories are great—but so is a photo at the infamous Kissing Bridge. The West Montrose Covered Bridge (1 Covered Bridge Dr, West Montrose, ON) is a must-see on your way home!
