As part of the #WRUnited Campaign, Explore Waterloo Region presents the Art Fresco Public Art Project: a whimsical tour of a series of unique picnic tables hand painted by talented local artisans. These extraordinary pieces are being hosted at various restaurants and patios around the Region to inject some vibrancy into a sector that was hit hard by the COVID-19 pandemic. We believe the project embodies the core values of Waterloo Region: community, inclusivity, and creativity.
We invite residents and visitors to enjoy the tables, make memories, and take photos. Sharing on social media is encouraged using the hashtag #ArtFrescoDining. Scroll down to browse the locations in Wilmot below, or view the full collection here.
We are Waterloo Region, and we are united.
Thank you to our artist selection committee: Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery Executive Director and Curator Denis Longchamps, Kitchener-Waterloo Art Gallery Executive Director Shirley Madill, and visual artist Susan Coolen for evaluating submissions from interested artists based on concepts that both celebrate Waterloo Region and honour those things that make Waterloo Region unique.
The 2020 Art Fresco Project began at the former Lot42 location, which allowed 38 artists to work on their art while maintaining physical distancing. Sincerest gratitude is also extended to the Home Hardware head office in St. Jacobs and Beauti-tone Paint for graciously supplying all of the paint and supplies.
Lastly, thank you to to team at St. Clements Trim Inc. for filling our order of 50 picnic tables!
