Artist Concept Statement:
Waterloo Region is famous for quilts! Donna loves colour and was able to find a quilt pattern that worked perfectly with the number of colours in the colour wheel. She combined the two and envisioned the quilt pattern “exploding” away from the centre, like fireworks.
Reason for Participating in Art Fresco Public Art Project:
For Donna, the Art Fresco Project was a great opportunity to create something colourful that will be out in the community. She hoped it would encourage people to get out and support their local restaurants and cafes, and that the tables would bring smiles to peoples’ faces. The project was a fun way to use her imagination and love of design for something that has a utilitarian purpose, but yet brings people together.
Artist Background:
Donna has always been into art, whether creating it, or enjoying and buying other artist’s work. She attended Conestoga College for graphic design, but works in sales and marketing now. As a hobby, she draws, paints with oil paint and cold wax, and loves working with encaustics. Most of her work is abstract, a subject matter that she is still learning about.
