Table Location:
Arabella Park Beer Bar
740 Belmont Avenue West, Kitchener, ON N2M 1P2
Artist Concept Statement:
Emily’s vision for the picnic table was to incorporate bright, pastel and jewel tone colours, and combine them with relaxed abstract forms. The vision tied in with the theme of a ‘Celebration of Waterloo Region’, as the colour combinations and shapes are very much representative of a celebration – almost confetti-like. To represent the region’s diversity, Emily incorporated a large number of boldly saturated sections coming together in harmony with softer colours.
Reason for Participating in Art Fresco Public Art Project:
Emily participated in the Art Fresco Project as an opportunity to be a part of a public-facing project, and to make a difference in the lives of those who see the art. She hopes her art brings a small slice of joy to those who walk past the picnic table, and remind them that where we live is something worth celebrating.
Artist Background:
Emily has been an artist for over 20 years, but has been practicing professionally since late 2018 when she created Emily Paints Events (where she attends weddings with her easel to paint a newlywed’s first dance). When COVID struck and her weddings were cancelled, she began exploring a more abstract style which has been both therapeutic and well received. She has exhibited her artwork at Collective Arts Brewing, Belmont Village Bestival, KW Women’s Expo, and various KW wedding shows.
