Artist Concept Statement:
Wilma’s concept features the LGTBQ flag colours with drawings of children playing different games, and represents the inclusivity that we as a community are known for.
Reason for Participating in Art Fresco Public Art Project:
Wilma participated in the Art Fresco Project because she thought it would be a fun way to experience something new.
Artist Background:
Wilma has been a practicing artist for over 40 years, and an art educator for almost as long. Having begun teaching in Winnipeg, Manitoba prior to coming to Kitchener-Waterloo 31 years ago, she continued teaching seniors/adults at Breithaupt, Rockway and Bridgeport community centres and The Button Factory. She continues to participate in local and provincial art shows through the Kitchener-Waterloo Society of Artists, Central Ontario Art Association, and the Button Factory, which have led to both sales and commissions. Her work hangs in homes and workplaces in The Netherlands, Belgium, USA, Malta and Canada. She has participated in exhibitions on a regular basis. Graduating with an Honours Bachelor of Fine Arts from the University of Waterloo last year was a highlight in her life.
