Artist Talk + Tour with Billy Gauthier

June 23 @ 2:00 pm - 3:00 pm

“I’m constantly trying to change my style and learn new ways to manipulate material. I’ve always been evolving and changing. I’m curious what’s around the corner. Whenever I go hunting and fishing, I’m usually the annoying person to take out because I never want to leave. And that’s the way I look at my artwork too. What else can I create? How far can I push the materials?” – Billy Gauthier

Hear the stories behind key artworks in Gauthier’s most significant exhibition to date. Billy Gauthier was inspired to start carving in 1996 by his cousin, renowned Inuit sculptor John Terriak. Gauthier’s work has narrative qualities that are inspired by personal memories, Inuit comsologies and mutual respect for the land and its natural resources. His sculpture is the direct result of an intimate connection with the land and culture of his home in North West River, Labrador.

Join us in the unique opportunity to hear more about Gauthier’s life, the stories connected to his pieces, and more on his Indigenous heritage.
