Dave Restivo Quintet with Special Guest Fawn Fritzen at The Jazz Room
June 28 @ 8:00 pm
David Restivo is one of Canada’s most respected and influential jazz artists. He is a 3-time winner of the National Jazz Awards’ Pianist of the Year Award, and is listed in the current edition of Canadian Who’s Who. David is well known for his work with Rob McConnell‘s Boss Brass and Tentet, the Mike Murley Quintet, and legendary songwriter Marc Jordan.
Fawn Fritzen once disdained the label “feminist”, but time and experience reshaped her thinking. Reflecting on the crucial role of music in shaping society, her songwriting draws on themes of feminism, failure, conflict, and connection. Fawn embodies Canada’s diversity with her mixed cultural roots of Chinese, French, and German, and she performs in four languages. With a powerful belter’s voice, she will growl out some gritty blues, then follow it with a tender ballad imbued with delicate nuance.
Presented by the Grand River Jazz Society.
