Miijim: Traditional Foods of the Lake of the Woods Anishinaabeg

Come experience Miijim at Schneider Haus National Historic Site, and learn how traditional foodways help to nourish mind, body and soul.
This augmented exhibit explores specific Anishinaabeg foods by combining knowledge from Iskatewizaagegan #39 Independent First Nation (also known as Shoal Lake #39 First Nation) with handcrafted items by local Anishinaabe artists from First Nations communities in Ontario. Each Nation has its own unique traditions and customs, but many practices are relatable and share similar experiences on the land.
The travelling component of the exhibit was collaboratively designed by Iskatewizaagegan #39 Independent First Nation, The Natural Resources Institute of the University of Manitoba, and The Lake of the Woods Museum. Local handmade items and the hands-on component have been curated by Anita Jacinto, a Mother of four from M’Chigeeng First Nation on Manitoulin Island who now resides in Waterloo Region.
