What it Feels Like for a Mom: Cultural Understandings of Motherhood

March 6 @ 11:30 am - 12:30 pm

As International Women’s Day approaches, join in an Inspiring Conversation with Wilfrid Laurier University researchers about how culture, circumstances and societal expectations can influence the experience of motherhood.

Laura MacGregor (PhD ’19, MA ’11) will share her research on the experiences of mothers caring for medically fragile children, the devaluing of maternal instincts and her own journey as a medical advocate for her child. Selda Sezen (MA ‘14), adjunct faculty member at Martin Luther University College, will discuss how Muslim mothers’ parenting is impacted by their faith, specifically after immigrating to Canada. Their conversation will be moderated by Evalena Matlock-Corley, a Laurier graduate and owner of Matlock Corley Community Solutions. Audience members are invited to submit questions for a Q&A period.
