SUMMARY:Afternoon Garden Concert featuring the Cambridge Scottish Session Fiddlers
DESCRIPTION:All are welcome to join us in McDougall’s cozy cottage garden for a fantastic afternoon of lively traditional music and song featuring the Cambridge Scottish Session Fiddlers. After Brad McEwen\, former Artistic Director of the Mill Race Festival of Traditional Folk Music\, suggested that there should be a music session in Cambridge that focused specifically on Scottish music\, this group of amateur musicians from the Kitchener and Cambridge area stepped up and came together. Following their first practice in August 2019\, they met monthly until the onset of the COVID-19 pandemic. They restarted the group in May of 2022 and are hoping that their dynamic fiddle sessions will become a new tradition in the community. The group plays Scottish music from Scotland and other places with a strong Scottish heritage (like Cape Breton) with additional tunes from other Celtic parts of the world. “We try to stick to the traditional methods of grouping tunes together – jig sets\, reel sets and March-strathspey sets – much as you might have heard them 200 years ago at a dance in Scotland\, or in Cape Breton and we’re always looking for new members”. Light refreshments will be served.
