DESCRIPTION:Your instructor will lead you in making hand-built steins using the slab construction method. Carve\, stamp\, and appliqué your steins to create 3D designs. Then\, customize your finish by painting it with underglazes! Your stein will be foodsafe\, dishwasher safe\, and microwave safe. Perfect for any beverage! Please take a photograph of your stein at the end of the workshop to help you identify it at pickup. Sometimes colours change and things can look a bit different when they come out of the kiln.Your Stein will not be ready by the end of Oktoberfest. The thick steins require a longer drying time before firing.Getting to the Workshop:Please note\, the gallery will already be closed at the start of the workshop. Please come to the classroom entrance at the back of the building. Look for the stairs between the parking lot and rec path.If you require an accessible entrance\, please email isabella@theclayandglass.ca by September 30th\, so that we can have a staff member ready to meet you there.Find parking using the Uptown Waterloo Parking MapAfter the Workshop + Pickup:The ceramic artworks will be fired in a kiln at the gallery. Between bedroom fights\, hair tangles\, a secret unconscious boyfriend\, and a Mennonite bakery heist\, Sam is forced to confront what it really means to belong\, to her Black Caribbean heritage\, her White mother\, her friends\, her city\, and herself. SUMMARY:"The Dark Side of Galt" Evening Walking Tours at McDougall Cottage
DESCRIPTION:Put on your walking shoes and join us for an unforgettable stroll through the past as we uncover the chilling tales that shape Galt’s dark history. From devastating disasters and notorious murders to lingering legends of hauntings\, this guided walk explores the city’s shadowy side. The walking tours leave the Cottage promptly at 6:30 and 7:00 PM and run for approximately 90 minutes (ending back at the Cottage). New this year! The 7:00 pm walk on October 2\, 2026 (only) is dog-friendly\, so feel free to bring your four-legged companion along! Please note that owners are responsible for the care and control of their dogs at all times. Any aggressive or overly disruptive behaviour may result in being asked to leave the tour. Dogs are not permitted inside the Cottage. The tours may include hills\, stairs and uneven terrain. Participants are advised to dress for the weather Phones are recommended\, but not required\, to access additional information on the sites we’ll be visiting. No washroom facilities available during the walk. Due to the subject matter of this walk it is suitable for ages 14+. Cost: $24.95 + HST. Tickets are also available for in-person purchase during the Cottage’s hours of operation. Tickets are non-refundable.Pre-registration is required and space is limited\, so register early!

DESCRIPTION:A biracial woman discover her parents are throwing her a surprise birthday party\, featuring all her White friends and her only Black friend.   What she expects to be a low-key homecoming quickly spirals into chaos when she discovers her parents are throwing her a surprise birthday party\, complete with her White friends and her only Black friend. As the night unfolds\, family wounds surface\, cultural tensions flare\, and a jerk chicken casserole becomes the final straw in Sam’s fractured sense of identity. Between bedroom fights\, hair tangles\, a secret unconscious boyfriend\, and a Mennonite bakery heist\, Sam is forced to confront what it really means to belong\, to her Black Caribbean heritage\, her White mother\, her friends\, her city\, and herself. Sharp\, funny\, and heartfelt\, mixed(er) is a story about identity\, family\, friendship\, and the messy\, hilarious journey of figuring out where you fit.

SUMMARY:Next In Fibre: Fibreworks 2026
DESCRIPTION:The featured artworks reflect a wide range of material and conceptual concerns shaping contemporary artistic practice.
