SUMMARY:KPL Present Chris Murphy
DESCRIPTION:The Central Library Reading Lounge will transform into a one-of-a-kind venue for this after-hours concert. All proceeds benefit the library. Event Details: Tickets on sale Friday\, October 9 at 10 a.m. Doors: 6:30 p.m. Show: 7 p.m. All ages and licensed event. Psst.. Its Chris’s Birthday\, and you can join the party! About the Artist Chris Murphy has been in the band Sloan for over 30 years. Chris got into the super group game in 2015 when he formed a trio called TUNS (rhymes with buns) with Matt Murphy (Super Friendz/The Flashing Lights) and Mike O’Neill (The Inbreds). Now on a supergroup kick\, he formed Trans-Canada Highwaymen in 2017 with Steven Page (ex Barenakedladies)\, Moe Berg (The Pursuit of Happiness) and Craig Northey (Odds). Then in 2018 some of his other musician friends were complaining they weren’t in a super group so Chris went ahead and agreed to make Anyway Gang with Sam Roberts (Sam Roberts Band)\, David Monks (Tokyo Police Club) and Menno Versteeg (Hollerado). Please don’t ask Chris to form a group with you. He doesn’t have time. What little time Chris has left over has been earmarked for solo shows where Chris plays songs and tells stories accompanied by acoustic guitar.

SUMMARY:Spectrum Queer Professional Social Mixer Series
DESCRIPTION:Back by popular demand! Hosted by our incredible friends at TWB Brewing\, our Queer Professional Social Mixer returns for the fall and winter. Let’s network and socialize and mix OUR way! The Second Tuesday of Every Month: September 8\, 2026October 13\, 2026November 10\, 2026December 8\, 2026January 12\, 2027February 9\, 2027About the Series:If you haven’t been before\, this event is for Queer Professionals to socialize and mix. Okay so what do those words mean? Queer: Well\, if you’re any wavelength of member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum\, you’re welcome to mix with us\, you belong here. Professional: We take the original meaning of the word “profession\,” as in\, “having something to profess\,” as in\, “having something to speak passionately about\,” to inform who’s professional\, so whether you’re working as a small cog in a big business\, or you’re an entrepreneur\, or you’re an artisan\, or you’re looking for work but LOVE to talk about bugs\, you belong here!Social: We use a neurodivergent-friendly sticker system and name tags to help folks indicate how they like to socialize – for some\, they want to do the approaching\, for others they’re happy to be interrupted. We also have lanyards for folks to indicate if they don’t want to be in any photos. TWB has incredible brews and also a wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks\, so if you want to focus on the low stakes easy conversational games we have planned to get people talking together\, you belong here!Mixer: We’ll have time before and after the event for folks to mill about\, come back to people they didn’t finish getting to talk to\, exchange contact info\, etc. People have found contractors for home improvement projects\, sponsors for events\, and plenty of new friends at these things! If you want to mix things up and add other cool queer people to your life\, you belong here.

Over the course of the afternoon\, Susan will guide participants step-by-step through the process of piecing and sewing their moccasins using pre-cut buffalo or moose hide (hides will be either black\, brown\, or tan\, depending on the colour that Susan can source). Create a pair for yourself\, or make a meaningful gift for someone special. These would make a wonderful Christmas present! NOTE: When you register\, please be sure to indicate your shoe size in US sizes\, and whether they are Men’s\, Women’s or Children’s\, so the moccasin components can be pre-cut to size.REGISTRATION CLOSES ON OCTOBER 31st! Reservations are required as space is limited\, so be sure to reserve your spot today! Cost: $100 per person\, plus HST (includes all materials and instruction). Tickets are also available for in-person purchase at McDougall Cottage during its hours of operation. Indigenous members of the community will receive a discounted workshop fee by using the code “Rockmocs”. Museum Volunteers receive a 10% discount with code “Volcode”.
