SUMMARY:The Art of Nostalgia II: Book Launch with Trevor Clare
DESCRIPTION:Join local artist Trevor Clare at The Walper Hotel for the launch of The Art of Nostalgia II\, a new collection of paintings and community stories celebrating the places and shared memories that make Waterloo Region home. Hosted by Mike Farwell\, the evening features live music\, a silent auction and a talk from Trevor about the inspiration behind the book. He’ll also unveil a new painting of St. Mary’s General Hospital\, a beloved local landmark featured in its pages. Presented in collaboration with Waterloo Regional Health Network (WRHN) Foundation\, the celebration marks a meaningful full-circle moment. Six years ago\, care Trevor received through the local hospital system during a mental health crisis helped set him on an unexpected creative path. Come celebrate art\, community and the places that connect us\, while raising funds for WRHN Foundation.

SUMMARY:KPL Present Chris Murphy
DESCRIPTION:The Central Library Reading Lounge will transform into a one-of-a-kind venue for this after-hours concert. All proceeds benefit the library. Event Details: Tickets on sale Friday\, October 9 at 10 a.m. Doors: 6:30 p.m. Show: 7 p.m. All ages and licensed event. Psst.. Its Chris’s Birthday\, and you can join the party! About the Artist Chris Murphy has been in the band Sloan for over 30 years. Chris got into the super group game in 2015 when he formed a trio called TUNS (rhymes with buns) with Matt Murphy (Super Friendz/The Flashing Lights) and Mike O’Neill (The Inbreds). Now on a supergroup kick\, he formed Trans-Canada Highwaymen in 2017 with Steven Page (ex Barenakedladies)\, Moe Berg (The Pursuit of Happiness) and Craig Northey (Odds). Then in 2018 some of his other musician friends were complaining they weren’t in a super group so Chris went ahead and agreed to make Anyway Gang with Sam Roberts (Sam Roberts Band)\, David Monks (Tokyo Police Club) and Menno Versteeg (Hollerado). Please don’t ask Chris to form a group with you. He doesn’t have time. What little time Chris has left over has been earmarked for solo shows where Chris plays songs and tells stories accompanied by acoustic guitar.

SUMMARY:Benedict Sheehan’s ‘Ukrainian War Requiem’ — The National Tour
DESCRIPTION:The Axios Men’s Ensemble from Edmonton\, who have recently secured a historic Juno award\, winning for Classical Album of the Year (Large Ensemble) for the recording of their Ukrainian War Requiem\, has announced a national tour of nine Canadian cities this November. Composed by two-time Grammy-Nominated Benedict Sheehan\, this monumental choral work spans 12 impactful movements that seamlessly blend modern musical styles with ancient chants and traditional Ukrainian motifs. The choral tribute serves as a powerful musical reverence for those affected by the war\, offering solace and strength to the living and the grieving\, and ultimately providing a solemn space for remembrance and prayer through a skillful and heartfelt tribute to Ukraine and her people. Conducted by Maestro Michael Zaugg\, the choir will feature over 50 performers from Axios Men’s Ensemble and Pro Coro Canada\, including acclaimed international soloists from North America\, Europe\, and Ukraine. More than music\, the Ukrainian War Requiem is a sombre journey through grief and loss\, acting as a fervent reminder of the enduring grace of the human spirit. Secure your seats to join us for an evening of sacred reflection and hope. Doors at 6:30.
