SUMMARY:M4LL PH0T0 POP-UP (Holiday Edition)
DESCRIPTION:Remember the mall portrait studio? Fake bookshelf backdrop\, a fern\, a stranger counting down from three while your mom fixed your collar. It’s back\, and it’s parked at Square Peg for the Christkindl Market. We do floating-head portraits — the ’80s/’90s department-store composite\, done properly. Three backdrops per session (laser\, muslin\, whatever we’ve dragged out for the occasion)\, you sit for us\, and you leave with the kind of portrait that’s been hanging over your grandma’s fireplace since 1987. Want the little inset in the corner? Fill it with whatever you want. We won’t ask. The family Christmas card\, done properly — which is to say\, badly. Holiday portraits for people who don’t want the same soft-focus fireplace photo as everyone else. Families\, couples\, solo glamour\, pets\, cursed novelty items you insist on holding — all welcome. No theme too weird\, no judgment on record. Drop-in sessions\, no appointment. Just show up. Have questions? Go to our IG @m4llph0t0 (https://www.instagram.com/m4llph0t0/) November 30th – December 13th $25 a human Square Peg · during the Christkindl Market\, Kitchener City Hall

SUMMARY:The da Vinci Dialogues ft. Professor Robert Van Pelt
DESCRIPTION:There Was No Renaissance The conventional divide between the Middle Ages and Renaissance overlooks a more complicated story. This lecture presents Renaissance humanism as the culmination of medieval traditions of synthesis\, as scholars sought to reconcile classical\, Christian\, Arabic\, civic\, and craft knowledge. Architecture made this confidence visible through works such as Brunelleschi’s San Lorenzo and Alberti’s theories\, which brought together classical proportion\, Christian ritual\, medieval practice\, and civic ambition. Yet as knowledge expanded\, this project of synthesis became increasingly difficult to sustain\, helping prepare the shift from Renaissance concord toward Reformation conflict. Admission to this event includes admission to THEMUSEUM. Adults: $21\,99/ Students: $18\,99/ 55 & better: $18\,99  Speaker Bio Robert Jan van Pelt has taught at the University of Waterloo School of Architecture since 1987 and has held academic appointments at institutions across Europe\, Asia\, and North America. He is the author or co-author of thirteen books and has received numerous honors\, including a National Jewish Book Award and a Guggenheim Fellowship. An internationally recognized authority on the history and architecture of Auschwitz\, his work has contributed significantly to forensic architecture and the study of Holocaust history. He has served as an expert witness\, consultant\, curator\, and advisor on major projects and exhibitions\, including The Evidence Room\, presented at the Venice Architecture Biennale.

Okay so what do those words mean? Queer: Well\, if you’re any wavelength of member of the 2SLGBTQIA+ spectrum\, you’re welcome to mix with us\, you belong here. Professional: We take the original meaning of the word “profession\,” as in\, “having something to profess\,” as in\, “having something to speak passionately about\,” to inform who’s professional\, so whether you’re working as a small cog in a big business\, or you’re an entrepreneur\, or you’re an artisan\, or you’re looking for work but LOVE to talk about bugs\, you belong here!Social: We use a neurodivergent-friendly sticker system and name tags to help folks indicate how they like to socialize – for some\, they want to do the approaching\, for others they’re happy to be interrupted. We also have lanyards for folks to indicate if they don’t want to be in any photos. TWB has incredible brews and also a wide selection of non-alcoholic drinks\, so if you want to focus on the low stakes easy conversational games we have planned to get people talking together\, you belong here!Mixer: We’ll have time before and after the event for folks to mill about\, come back to people they didn’t finish getting to talk to\, exchange contact info\, etc. People have found contractors for home improvement projects\, sponsors for events\, and plenty of new friends at these things! If you want to mix things up and add other cool queer people to your life\, you belong here.

SUMMARY:Wednesday Night Aperitivo - Life Drawing with Baz Kanold
DESCRIPTION:This 3- hour is the perfect beginners course to learning how to draw the figure using a live model. In this session\, we’ll start with basics like finding through lines and simplifying the form\, and work together to increase your confidence in capturing the figure and finding your style\, and have a lot of fun while doing it! Please note that this session will include a live\, nude model\, so we suggest ages 16+ for this event.   Bio:   Baz Kanold They/Them Mixed Media Art Instructor   Baz Kanold is a mixed media artist graduated in 2021 from the Fine Arts program at the University of Waterloo. Previously\, they studied advertising and graphic design at Sheridan College\, followed by several years of working as a graphic designer. Instead of continuing on working a nine-to-five office job\, they decided to advance their education in the arts in order to pursue their dream of becoming an artist.   Their artwork over recent years has developed into an investigation and celebration of sexuality and gender identity — though they still find time to pepper in some nerdiness when they have the chance. While they consider themselves a mixed media artist\, they have a general focus on oil painting\, conté or pencil on paper\, and digital drawing.   The ticket price includes instructors\, access to all necessary tools\, and materials required for the activity.   Drinks will be available for purchase in THELOUNGE; card payments only.

SUMMARY:The da Vinci Dialogues ft. Professor Brendan Stewart
DESCRIPTION:Brendan Stewart\, Associate Professor of Landscape Architecture at the University of Guelph\, explores how ordinary suburban strip malls can become vibrant public gathering places when we rethink the purpose of the spaces around them. Drawing on the award-winning plazaPOPS initiative\, Stewart shares how twelve Toronto strip-mall parking lots were temporarily transformed into welcoming community spaces between 2019 and 2024. Through observation\, mapping\, and conversations with participants\, the project examined how people used these reimagined spaces-revealing the important role public space plays in everyday life and demonstrating how experimentation can inspire more connected\, inclusive communities. The presentation highlights the project’s key findings and reflects on how collaboration across design\, research\, community organizations\, and government can help unlock the potential of overlooked places\, offering new approaches to creating public space in suburban neighborhoods. The Second Tuesday of Every Month: September 8\, 2026October 13\, 2026November 10\, 2026December 8\, 2026January 12\, 2027February 9\, 2027About the Series:If you haven’t been before\, this event is for Queer Professionals to socialize and mix.
