Cruise into Belmont Village
The area known as Belmont Village began as a depression-era ‘relief’ project to create employment. Men hired onto these work crews installed sewer systems, street lights and paved a three-block stretch of road that was to be the beginning of a convention centre; however, the centre never transpired. This paved area did become a stage for midways, dances, roller-skating and other open-air community events. In 1947, Claude Musselman bought the site from the City of Kitchener for a dollar, and transformed the area into a bustling business district. In 1989, the Belmont Improvement Area (BIA) Board of Management was initiated to promote the businesses in Belmont Village.
Today, beautiful Belmont Village is host to a wide variety of shopping, services and restaurants. It is also host to several community events annually, including the Belmont Village Bestival, Cruise into Belmont Village, and Christmas in the Village.
