Explore – Shop – Discover … in beautiful Downtown Cambridge
Historic downtown Cambridge – formerly known as Galt – features unique shops and specialty retailers, diverse restaurants, as well as business and professional service providers. The Downtown Cambridge Business Improvement Area (BIA) has been diligent in beautifying and improving this unique area in order to build a downtown core that is truly the heart of the city.Early settlers to the area worked hard to develop industries which produced quality products, resulting in downtown Cambridge becoming a place of commerce. Its location along the banks of the Grand River made it not only a perfect location for business because of the river’s power and travel capabilities, the beauty of the water also made downtown Cambridge a focal point in the community.
Many of the beautiful buildings from that time are still evident today, thanks to the work of the local Architectural Conservation Advisory Committee.
The Downtown Cambridge BIA works to promote and beautify the area, building a downtown core where specialty boutiques, great dining, and professional services are complemented by its arts and culture scene.
