Pinehurst Lake Conservation Area is located outside of the town of Ayr in Waterloo Region, and is part of the Grand River Conservation Authority (GRCA). Featuring a sandy beach and natural Carolinian forest, Pinehurst Lake is open year round for day use, as well as overnight camping from May to October.
Pinehurst has 169 serviced campsites and 64 unserviced sites. Three unserviced group campsites are available for larger gatherings and can be reserved by contacting the GRCA.
The lake is suitable for non-motorized boats: paddleboats, canoes and kayaks can be rented on site. Anglers will enjoy fishing at Pinehurst Lake, with its sunfish, largemouth bass and black crappie populations. The sandy beach at Pinehurst Lake is a great place to spend a summer afternoon with the family. The park has a beach volleyball court, a playground and a playing field suitable for group activities .
There are 10 kilometres of marked nature trails winding through hardwood forests that are perfect for hiking and cycling. About 400 picnic tables are scattered throughout the park and day-use visitors may use barbecues in designated picnic areas. There are three picnic shelters available, and can be reserved for weddings, family reunions, corporate picnics and other large events.
Pinehurst Lake is a perfect location for birding enthusiasts, with more than 100 bird species having been recorded in the area. Notable species include the bald eagle, Cooper’s hawk, Acadian flycatcher, Louisiana waterthrush and the red-headed woodpecker.
