City of Waterloo
Waterloo Park is located in the centre of the City of Waterloo. Often called “the jewel of the city,” the park features 45 hectares of prime parkland, with a number of amenities that are enjoyed year-round by the community.
A number of popular events happen each year in Waterloo Park, including Wonders of Winter, an annual festival of lights that takes place each December, and Music and Movies in the Park each summer. The park consists of many different areas that can be enjoyed by the public. The Eby Farmstead is located in the centre of Waterloo Park, and allows visitors to learn more about farm animals while seeing them up close. The Grist Mill is a scenic venue and popular spot for weddings and photos. Built in 1996, it is a replica of the first mill built in the city by Abraham Erb in 1816. The park also includes a skatepark and splashpad, as well as several picnic and event areas.
Waterloo Park offers multi-use sports fields that can be used for practices, games, tournaments and special events. They include two soccer/rugby pitches, two lit ball diamonds, two unlit ball diamonds, and a cricket pitch. Contact the City of Waterloo for rental information.
Waterloo Park continues to be transformed to meet the needs of the growing urban core. Improvements to the central promenade area of the park, which is the main intersection for pedestrian and cycling traffic through Waterloo Park, are underway. Plans are also in place to design a new festival area, accessible off Father David Bauer Drive, that will accommodate a number of cultural activities and programs.
