Waterloo Public SquareWaterloo Public Square

Waterloo Public Square is a place for friends and neighbours to gather in the heart of UpTown Waterloo.  The City of Waterloo works with many groups and organizations to ensure the square is hopping with activity, from concerts and festivals to markets and everything in between.

Located in front of the Shops at Waterloo Town Square, Waterloo Public Square features a main courtyard with amphitheatre seating, as well as an upper terrace area. Hundreds of events are held there each year. Community groups can rent the public square for their events by contacting the City of Waterloo.

Waterloo Public Square SkatingIn the winter the courtyard is transformed into a skating rink that is enjoyed by the community. The rink is open daily from 10 a.m. to 10 p.m., weather permitting.

When there are no planned events going on, the Square becomes an area for community and family members to meet, relax, and take in a wonderful view of the uptown area.

The square is also home to the Waterloo Bell by artist Royden Rabinowitch. This three-metre tall piece of public art, which is made of corten steel, pays tribute to Waterloo’s past, present and future.

The Waterloo Public Square project received the 2010 National Urban Design Award from the Royal Architecture Institute of Canada/Canadian Institute of Planners/Canadian Society of Landscape Architects, and the 2010  Urban/Community Design Award from the Ontario Professional Planners Institute.
