Canada is set to celebrate its 152nd birthday on July 1st, and you’re invited to the party! There’s a lot happening in Waterloo Region on Canada Day: from live performances and family fun to fireworks, here’s where you’ll find the celebrations happening as you #ExploreWR!

Fireworks

The skies in Waterloo Region will be bright with fireworks July 1st: find a light show near you!

Downtown Kitchener (Carl Zehr Square) – begins at dusk

Waterloo (Columbia Lake Fields) – 10 pm *please note this is only a fireworks celebration this year

Cambridge (Riverside Park) – begins at dusk

New Hamburg (Norm S. Hill Park) – begins at dusk

Ayr (Schmidt Park) – begins at dusk

Calvary Assembly (127 Hespeler Road, Cambridge) – 9 pm

If you want to get a jump on the fireworks, Bingemans will light the skies on Canada Day Eve – June 30th – starting at 10 pm at Boston Pizza Kingpin Bowlounge.

Canada Day Celebrations in Waterloo Region

North Dumfries Township

Canada Day in Ayr
From 6:00-9:00 p.m. drop by Schmidt Park for children’s activities (fun summer picnic games), food trucks and live music!  Bring your lawnchairs or picnic blankets and settle in for the Fireworks show that will begin at dusk.

Woolwich Township

Waterloo Central Railway Canada Day Steam Train Ride
Celebrate Canada Day with a historic train ride pulled by Waterloo Central Railway’s 96-year-old #9 Steam Engine. Non-stop, round trip ride with a run past photo opportunity.

Wilmot Township

Canada Day in Wilmot
There’s a full day of fun planned in New Hamburg for Canada Day. Breakfast with Batman, vendor’s market, kids zone, Freestyle Motocross Stunt Show, the Orangeman Band, and fireworks are all part of the celebrations.

Cambridge

Cambridge Canada Day
Cambridge’s celebrations include a Parade that begins at 10 am. There’s also a Mopar Show & Shine, and lots of family fun activities all day long!

Calvary Assembly Canada Day Celebrations
This family friendly event features games, tasty carnival treats, fun music and many more activities. The evening culminates with fireworks that will fill the sky!

Old Post Office Light Show
Night lights of a different kind, happening on Canada Day Eve at the Old Post Office. Watch visual effects transform the Old Post Office with this amazing 20 minute show, set to music. Be sure to bring the whole family to enjoy in this fantastic display!

Waterloo

13th Annual Canada Day Ride
The ride begins at Bechtel Park, and follows a route that heads to Elora, returns through the West Montrose covered bridge, and includes a short loop via the Kissing Bridge Trail. You’ll even enjoy lunch by the river.

Canada Day Community Carnival
Enjoy an afternoon of family fun that includes lots of food, exotic animals, Marble Mazes, STEM and robotics activities, games, races, preschool play zone and more at Trinity Evangelical Missionary Church.

Kitchener

Canada Day in DTK
Celebrate Canada Day by heading to Downtown Kitchener for a FREE concert, headlined by the Juno nominated country duo, The Reklaws. Have fun in the new family/kids zone, enjoy a bite to eat, have a drink in the licensed patio and cap off the night with fireworks.

Canada Day Picnic
The Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum is throwing a party on Canada Day. Admission is FREE for this fun family event, including musical entertainment and games like croquet and horseshoes. Bring your own picnic lunch or purchase a tasty barbeque lunch.

Canada Day Citizenship Ceremony
Join Woodside National Historic Site for this special July 1st citizenship ceremony welcoming new Canadians to our community. You can also visit the boyhood home of Canada’s tenth prime minister for free on Canada Day and have fun with special games and activities!
