Artist Concept Statement:
Dayna’s concept celebrates the physical growth and change that has happened in the region over the past decade, and that is currently underway. Green and blue are civic colours of Cambridge, Kitchener and Waterloo, and are designed to represent a united region. As our city grows and changes with new buildings, transportation options and urban spaces, there is a feeling of new energy, opportunity and excitement for current residents and newcomers alike. The vibrancy of Dayna’s piece is designed to capture this feeling of energy, opportunity and excitement.
Reason for Participating in Art Fresco Public Art Project:
As an urban planner and designer, Dayna is an advocate for public outdoor gathering spaces. The current pandemic has heightened the need for, and the importance of, these places to provide equitable outdoor recreation opportunities for everyone. The Art Fresco Project project captures her desire to contribute to creating great urban outdoor spaces, by creating a piece of public art that might inspire someone to reflect and think about the changing urban environment.
