Timmy Tran, a 19-year-old Kitchener student, found himself in São Paulo, Brazil, a week ago, thanks to his interest in a video game called Valorant.

Tram and a team of four other players were competing in an e-sports collegiate championship, the Red Bull Campus Clutch World Final, a global tournament for college and university students with a prize worth about $30,000.

Tram said his team easily beat out 16 other Canadian teams to get into the global competition because of their dedicated practising.

“We were very determined to win,” said Tram, who was born and raised in Kitchener.

The competition ran Dec. 13 to 16 with 48 teams from several countries competing in multiple rounds.
