There’s a lot happening this July 1st long weekend!
Picnics, music, events and fireworks are all part of the fun, as we gather to observe the shared values of this country and its diverse communities.
It is also a day to reflect on our past and to learn, as we move forward on the road to reconciliation and a better future.
Here are some of the events planed for July 1st as you #ExploreWR!
FIREWORKS AND DRONE SHOWS
Downtown Kitchener (Carl Zehr Square) – Fireworks begin at dusk approx. 10:20 PM
Waterloo (Waterloo Park West) – 10 PM LED Drone Show
Cambridge (Riverside Park) – begins at 10 PM
New Hamburg (Norm S. Hill Park) – 9:30 PM
Ayr (Cowan Park) – 9:45 PM
Bingemans (Boston Pizza Kingpin Bowlounge Patio) – 10 PM on Sunday, June 30th
CANADA DAY EVENTS IN WATERLOO REGION
WILMOT TOWNSHIP
Canada Day in Wilmot 2024
The Wilmot Canada Day events begins with a traditional Indigenous Sunrise Ceremony.
Opening ceremony takes place at 11 a.m., followed by a Canada Day cake and a performance by children’s entertainer Erick Traplin.
The event includes vendors; bouncy castles; potato sack races; face-painting; egg-and-spoon race; scavenger hunt; three-legged races; bubble-making; a craft table; a dunk tank; and costume characters. Live musical performances will take place into the evening.
The day will also feature fireworks along the Nith River starting at dusk.
NORTH DUMFRIES TOWNSHIP
July 1st Community Celebration
From 6 – 10:30 p.m. drop by Cowan Park in Ayr to celebrate community. Gather to celebrate the values Canadians continuously aspire to, and also to remember the past and commit to working for a brighter future for all.
There will be food trucks, live entertainment, family-fun activities and fireworks!
WOOLWICH TOWNSHIP
Canada Day Celebration
Things kick off at 10 a.m. with a free swim at the Woolwich Memorial Centre. Then, from 12-3 PM, enjoy all the free events happening including a magic show, antique car show, live music fire truck tours and more!
CAMBRIDGE
Cambridge Celebrates Canada Day
The Canada Day celebrations at Riverside Park in Cambridge have something to do for the whole family!
Events kick off with the Fishing Derby at 8 AM; there’s a midway, live music, Hot Air Balloon rides, food trucks, vendors, a children’s area and more. The Cambridge Canada Day Parade winds its way along King Street starting at 11 AM. The fun finishes with the fireworks display at 10 PM.
WATERLOO
Community Picnic
Spend the afternoon in Waterloo Park with local artists, food trucks and giant games at the July 1 Community Picnic. The event runs 4:00 P.M. to 10:00 P.M. on the West side of Waterloo Park located near the Bandshell.
Make sure you also look up at 10 p.m. for an amazing 100-piece LED drone show that will light up the sky.
KITCHENER
Canada Day in DTK
Canada Day in Downtown Kitchener begins at 2 pm at Carl Zehr Square.
Canada Day is always one of the biggest events of the summer, with lots of family-friendly fun, an evening concert, and a fireworks display to end the night. The Canada Day Stage will feature performances by several local artists, Danny Michel with Romeo Sex Fighter, and April Wine.
Canada Day at Bingemans
Join Bingemans on Sunday, June 30th for a day of fun featuring live entertainment by The Almost Hip, Canada’s premier The Tragically Hip cover band, and Waterloo Region’s largest fireworks display! Admission is free (no outside food or drinks allowed).
