Discover Kitchener’s diversity through a World of Flavour: The DTK Travellers Tour 2025

February – March 2025

Kitchener’s downtown core is a vibrant hub of cultural diversity, and its rich culinary scene is a reflection of the many communities that call this city home. Celebrating its second year, the DTK Travellers Tour invites residents and visitors to embark on a flavourful journey through the tastes, sounds, and traditions of different cultures—all in one downtown location.

“The DTK Travellers Tour is about more than food—it’s about connection,” says Arnold Yescas, Arts & Culture Manager at the Downtown Kitchener BIA. “Every dish tells a story, and this event allows us to share those stories with the community. From family recipes passed down through generations to creative modern interpretations of classic dishes, the Travellers Tour celebrates the rich diversity that makes Downtown Kitchener so special.”

How It Works

The DTK Travellers Tour is a month-long celebration held at the Kitchener Public Library (Central Library) every Sunday from 1–4 p.m. Each week highlights the food, music, and traditions of a different region:

Sunday, February 16: Europe
Sunday, February 23: Asia
Sunday, March 2: Africa / Caribbean
Sunday, March 9: Latin America

Each Sunday, attendees can enjoy:

  • Complimentary food samples from Downtown Kitchener restaurants, inspired by the featured region of the week.
  • Family-friendly activities, including face painting by 7 Shades by G and interactive performances by Drew Ripley Entertainment
  • A mini pop-up gallery curated by local artist James Nye

This free, family-friendly event offers a unique way to experience the cultural tapestry of Kitchener, bringing the community together through shared traditions, flavours, and artistry.

A Celebration of Connection

“What makes this event so meaningful is the opportunity it creates to connect with the people behind the food,” says Yescas. “Each chef, artist, and business owner brings their own story to the table, allowing us to learn more about the cultures and traditions that enrich our community. The Travellers Tour is a chance to celebrate those stories in a way that’s fun, engaging, and memorable.”

Step into the heart of Downtown Kitchener this February and March for the DTK Travellers Tour—a celebration of diversity, community, and the universal love of food, music, and culture. Whether you’re sampling a new dish, dancing to live music, or enjoying the creativity of local artists, the Travellers Tour offers something for everyone.
