Spring has sprung, and May is bringing you a vibrant arrangement of events across Waterloo Region! From captivating theatre performances and lively music concerts, to the beginning of festival season in Waterloo Region with WEFTFest and the annual New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale (with its incredible handmade quilt auction!) there’s something to keep everyone entertained this month.

Queen: It’s A Kinda Magic | May 2  
Relive the magic of Queen with this stunning tribute concert at Centre In The Square. Sing along to all your favourite hits and enjoy a night of rock ‘n’ roll nostalgia. 

Community On Stage presents The Music Man | May 2–10  
There’s trouble in River City when a fast-talking salesman gets his heart stolen by the town librarian. Enjoy this classic family-friendly musical featuring local performers and beloved songs at the Cambridge Arts Theatre. 

KWLT Presents: Just Friends | May 2–18  
Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre presents Just Friends, a new play by local playwright Faith Andrew. It’s a hilarious and heart-wrenching coming-of-age dramedy that explores friendships, first loves, and the complexities of growing up. 

Bracelet Beading Workshop | May 3  
Learn traditional beading techniques with Susan Hill of Hill’s Creations at McDougall Cottage. Susan is a Haudenosaunee artisan and a member of the Cayuga Nation, living in Ohsweken on the Six Nations of the Grand River Territory and was mentored by her mother, Millie, throughout her years of beading. You’ll learn how to create a beautiful bracelet and learn new skills to share with your family. 

The Corner Studio and Globe Studios Opening Weekend | May 3  
Explore and purchase original artwork directly from local artists at The Corner Studio and Globe Studios in Kitchener. It’s a great way to support Waterloo Region’s vibrant arts community. 

Teacher Appreciation Crafternoons | May 3–4  
Sure, coffee gifts are great, but cards and mementos are one of our favourite ways to show the educator in your life how much they mean to you. Your kids can celebrate Teacher Appreciation Week by creating heartfelt, handcrafted gifts for their teachers at Teacher Appreciation Crafternoons at the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum. It’s a perfect event for families looking for a creative weekend activity. 

May the Fourth – A Galactic Celebration | May 4  
THEMUSEUM is hosting an out-of-this-galaxy event to celebrate Star Wars Day and all things pop culture! Whether you’re a Jedi Master, a Sith Lord, or just a fan of epic fandoms, there’s something for everyone at this galactic gathering. Mother’s Day Heritage Hopper – Mom Rides FREE! | May 10 
Celebrate Mom with a scenic heritage train ride through the Waterloo Region countryside. On Saturday, May 10, moms ride for free aboard the Waterloo Central Railway’s Heritage Hopper when accompanied by a paid ticket. Moms will also receive a special gift to commemorate the day.​ 
Pro Tip: Waterloo Central Railway offers a number of dinner trains along with their weekly Heritage Hopper rides from the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market – check their website for dates!

Kitchener Electronic Music Open Mic | May 10

Poyo Fest – A Kirby Celebration | May 10 
Calling all Kirby fans and lovers of all things cute! Poyo Fest is a vibrant, free celebration of Nintendo’s beloved pink puffball, hosted by KW Creators in Downtown Kitchener. Mother’s Day Tea by the Grand | May 11

WEFTFest Fibre Arts Festival | May 16–19 
Celebrate the rich tapestry of fibre arts at WEFTFest! This four-day festival features the stunning Quilt of Belonging, artisan vendors, workshops, and the Artistic Apparel Fashion Show. Immerse yourself in creativity and craftsmanship at St. George’s Hall in Waterloo. 

KWFamous Vintage Fest | May 17–18 
Step back in time at Vintage Fest! Hosted by KWFamous, this two-day event transforms Uptown Waterloo into a haven for vintage lovers, featuring over 120 vendors, live music, classic cars, and more. Don’t miss the nostalgia and unique finds! 

Kitchener Panthers Home Opener | May 18  
Celebrate the start of baseball season as the Kitchener Panthers take on the Chatham-Kent Barnstormers at Jack Couch Park. Grab your cap and glove and cheer on the home team at this classic summer pastime. 

Magic & Shenanigans Walking Tour | May 23  
Explore Uptown Waterloo in a whole new way with Magic & Shenanigans. Twelve of the greatest magicians from six different countries, along with professional comedians, actors, and improv specialists, will guide you through the secrets of Uptown Waterloo. There are ticketed tours and free public experiences on corners across Uptown.

New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale | May 30-31
There’s no shortage of things to see, do and taste at the annual New Hamburg Mennonite Relief Sale! Come for the food, and stay for the quilt auction which features hundreds of handmade quilts. Funds raised support the work of the Mennonite Central Committee at home and around the world.
