August Events & Festivals in Waterloo Region
Ontario Summer Games | July 30 – August 2
The whole region becomes a stadium as the Waterloo Region 2026 Ontario Summer Games bring 23 sports and thousands of young athletes to our region. Across four days and 23 sports, venues in Kitchener, Waterloo, Cambridge, and the surrounding townships will showcase the talent and sportsmanship of the province’s next generation of champions. Cheer on the competitors, support local athletes, or just soak up the energy of one of Ontario’s premier multi-sport events — the action kicks off with the Opening Ceremony at University Stadium at Wilfrid Laurier University.
Long Weekend Band Crawl: Volume 17 | August 2
22 bands. 6 stages. 1 ticket. That’s right folks, the Long Weekend Band Crawl is back for another massive live music experience in Uptown Waterloo. Every ticket is an all-access pass to see bands like Local Goblin, Girls Against World Domination, One Hundred Moons, and more live! Venues include Revive Karaoke, the Princess Cinema, and Prohibition Warehouse.
Salsa in the Square | Thursdays in August
Waterloo Public Square heats up every Thursday night as Salsa in the Square returns for its fourth year. The Underdog Dance Corp. kicks things off with a free dance lesson at 7 P.M. followed by live performances and music until 11 P.M.. The whole evening is free, but please register for the event!
Concerts at the Castle | August 6, 13, 20, and 27
Bring your lawn chair to the front lawn of Castle Kilbride in Baden for an evening of live music under the open sky. Concerts at the Castle features Unleashed, Dana K and the Remedy, York Street Thought Process, and Cabin Fever. Admission is by donation, and the show runs weather permitting. It’s a laid-back way to enjoy summer at one of the region’s most beautiful heritage landmarks.
Kitchener Panthers Baseball | August 6, 9, 13, 16, 20, 23, and 27
The summer is still going strong, and so are your Kitchener Panthers. You’ve got seven home games left to catch the Panthers on the field at Jack Couch Park next to the Aud. This month, check out their special promotional games like the Stuff the Bus game in support of The Food Bank of Waterloo Region on August 9 and Freezie Day on August 23!
Kitchener Blues Festival | August 6–9
Canada’s largest true blues festival returns to Downtown Kitchener for its 26th year, with more than 35 bands across four stages over four days. The festival kicks off Thursday, August 6 with a ticketed fundraising concert at the OLG Clocktower Stage in Victoria Park featuring Bill Durst, Sass Jordan, and Kim Wilson and The Fabulous Thunderbirds, with proceeds helping keep the rest of the weekend’s music free for everyone.
Ryan Long | August 7
One of comedy’s most talked-about voices hits Centre In The Square in Kitchener. Known for his viral street interviews and no-filter takes on culture and politics, Ryan Long has built a massive online following and his live show goes further than the clips, packing in new material, unexpected turns, and fast-paced energy that only happens in the room (and this room happens to be Centre in the Square!).
The KW Night Market: Cryptids & Curios | August 7 & 8
The beautifully strange descends upon 44 Gaukel Street in Downtown Kitchener for this year’s KW Night Market. Browse eerie art, curious crafts, and unforgettable gifts from more than 50 dark artists and vendors at this free indoor-and-outdoor bazaar, curated by JUNO and Emmy-winning artist My Pet Skeleton — who’ll be showing his own strange and beautiful work too. Arrive early: the first 100 registered ticket holders score a signed limited-edition Mothman poster and a collectible Make Your Own Monster booklet featuring 50+ artists.
Cambridge Ribfest & Craft Beer Show | Aug. 7–9
Bring your appetite to Riverside Park for a weekend of mouth-watering ribs and chicken, an incredible selection of Ontario craft beer, ciders, and cocktails, plus live entertainment all weekend and a Kids Fun Zone. This festival features exclusively local and Ontario-based vendors, and admission is free with donations accepted at the gate in support of Rotary Cambridge Sunrise.
High Seas Teas at Castle Kilbride | August 7, 8, 14, and 15
Step back into the golden age of ocean travel at Castle Kilbride in Baden. Costumed staff lead a guided tour of the castle and its special exhibit, Vogue Voyages: Fashion from the High Seas 1912–1939, followed by lemon chiffon tea on the front lawn with treats from around the world — think British scones and baklava. Teas run from 1 to 3 P.M. and move indoors in the event of rain or heat.
Black Cambridge: Footsteps to Freedom | August 13
Explore the lives and community of early Black residents of 1800s Cambridge with Stroll Walking Tour’s Black Cambridge: Footsteps to Freedom. During this 90-minute stroll, you’ll learn about journeys on the Underground Railroad, the lives of early Black residents, and the day when famous U.S. slavery abolitionist Frederick Douglass gave a speech in Galt.
The 5th Annual Canadian Arab Festival | August 14
Carl Zehr Square at Kitchener City Hall comes alive with an evening celebrating Arabic culture, from lively Dabke circles to incredible live performances and mouth-watering cuisine. Bring your family and friends to experience vibrant traditions from local vendors showcasing the richness of Arab culture, all in the heart of Downtown Kitchener. The festival runs from 4 to 9:30 P.M..
KWLT’s New Works Festival | August 14–23
Local playwrights take the spotlight as the Kitchener-Waterloo Little Theatre’s New Works Festival returns for its second edition. Eight original plays are grouped into three performances — the mind-bending A Glass Darkly, the puzzle-filled Mystery Matinee!!!, and Love+Dirt, an absurdist take on “would you still love me if I was a worm?” — each staged multiple times over the festival’s two-week run at KWLT’s theatre on Princess Street East in Waterloo. Evening shows start at 8 P.M. and matinees at 2 P.M., with author talk-backs following the August 15 and 16 matinees.
Sunset Sessions | August 14, 21, and 28
Free live music is taking over Vogelsang Green Fridays in August, courtesy of the Downtown Kitchener BIA, the businesses of DTK, and Good Company Productions. Each Sunset Sessions show features two top secret artists from different genres, so come ready to discover something new or enjoy something familiar. Grab a lawn chair, a blanket, and takeout from a downtown business. Music runs from 7:30 to 9:30 P.M.. If it rains, the show moves to the fully covered Kitchener Market Breezeway.
Last Night on Earth Fashion and Art Market | August 15
Shop local designers, curated vintage, handmade jewelry, original art, oddities, and more from some of the Waterloo Region’s most unique vendors. The Last Night on Earth Fashion and Art Market is happening on August 15 from 4 to 10 P.M. at the Victoria Park Pavilion — and admission is free!
Moparfest | Aug. 15 & 16
Canada’s largest all-Mopar car show rumbles back into New Hamburg for two days of Chrysler, Dodge, Jeep, and Plymouth glory. Wander a field of 1,300+ classic, modified, and survivor cars, browse the automotive swap meet, and stick around for prizes, food trucks, and the beer garden. On Friday night, downtown New Hamburg hosts a cruise night open to all makes and models, and Saturday wraps with a burnout contest right after the show. Kids 15 and under get in free!
Latin Music on Queen | August 15 & 29
Enjoy salsa under the summer sky as Latin Music on Queen brings free outdoor dancing back to Cambridge. This dance party runs from 6 to 10:30 P.M., and all skill levels are welcome — no partner required, just get on the dance floor and have some fun.
Far East Asian Night Market | August 16
Downtown Kitchener transforms into a vibrant celebration of Asian cultures as the Far East Asian Night Market takes over King Street, Eby Street, and the Kitchener Market. Explore more than 50 vendors serving delicious eats, unique retail finds, and services, plus live performances curated by Good Company Productions, interactive activities, and entertainment for everyone. The market runs from 3 to 11 P.M. and admission is free.
Slit Barn Sessions: An Evening with Hawksley Workman | August 20
JUNO Award-winning singer-songwriter Hawksley Workman brings his genre-defying blend of folk, chart pop, and irrepressible cabaret to the Slit Barn Sessions Summer Music Series. With 17 solo records spanning international hits and Canadiana-soaked indie releases, his show-stopping vocals and songs about weather, love, heartbreak, and end times have earned him a league of devoted fans. Doors open at 7 P.M., and tickets are $75.
Pottery, Pints & Prosecco | August 21
Get your hands dirty and your glass full at the Canadian Clay and Glass Gallery in Waterloo. Each ticket to Pottery, Pints & Prosecco includes step-by-step hand-building instruction from gallery instructors, all materials for a kiln-fired project, and your choice of craft beer, prosecco, or a soft drink. Beginners are welcome, and your finished piece will be fired and ready for pickup in six to eight weeks.
True North Line Dance Weekend | August 21–23
Urban Cowboy Line Dancing and Spur of the Moment present the second annual True North Line Dance National at Bingemans. Grab your boots and get ready for a weekend of country music, line dancing, and an energetic summer atmosphere perfect for beginners, seasoned dancers, and anyone ready to hit the dance floor.
Caribana Ignite | August 21 & 22
Experience the energy, colour, and rhythm of carnival at Caribana Ignite at Carl Zehr Square. Instead of a parade, this year’s Caribana Ignite gives you a front row seat for this high‑energy street party showcasing the diversity and vibrancy of Caribbean culture at the Carnival Village.
Wet Hot Summer | August 22
Henny’s Handmade Events is turning up the heat with Wet Hot Summer, an eclectic mix of awesome vendors, drag performances, delicious treats, and more on the Gaukel Block in Downtown Kitchener. The market runs from 2 to 8 P.M. and admission is free.
Toronto Tempo on the Big Screen | August 23
Catch the excitement of the WNBA with a free outdoor screening at The District Square inside The Gaslight District. Join fellow basketball fans as the Tempo take on the Las Vegas Aces live on the big screen, starting at 7 P.M.. Bring your lawn chairs, team gear, and plenty of spirit for this family-friendly, rain-or-shine game night.
Summer Music Series at Langdon Hall | August 25
Celebrate the sounds of the seventies beneath the Summer House overlooking Langdon Hall’s picturesque gardens. For the second and final evening of the Summer Music Series, Greg Wyard performs a lively tribute to the decade’s greatest hits, paired with a three-course menu from Executive Chef Jason Bangerter and his team.
Sun Life Waterloo Busker Carnival | August 27–30
World-class street performers take over Uptown Waterloo for the 38th annual Sun Life Waterloo Busker Carnival. Watch jugglers, acrobats, contortionists, fire acts, and comedians from around the globe across more than 50 scheduled performances, plus food trucks, midway rides, and an Artist Alley. Admission works busker-style: watch the show, then pay what you can when performers pass the hat. It’s a volunteer-driven celebration of summer’s end for all ages.
Bucket of Thanks | August 29
Mennonite Central Committee invites you to a family-friendly open house where giving back is the main event. Pack a relief kit that will be shipped overseas, taste a sample of meat prepared in the cannery, and pick up some canned meat in support of MCC’s relief work. Kids (and the young at heart) can enjoy a bouncy castle, face painting, and snacks — plus, teams can compete in the Soap Structure Contest, building creations from wrapped bars of soap that will all go on to be used in relief kits. Admission is free.
