Fall is a great time to get out and explore the countryside around Waterloo Region, and local farms make it easy to enjoy the season at its freshest. From wandering through an apple orchard to searching for the perfect pumpkin, a farm visit is a chance to slow down, get outside and make an afternoon of it.

Whether you’re planning a family outing, a day with friends or a fall date, you’ll find plenty of seasonal fun at farms throughout the region. Just be sure to check farm hours and picking availability before you head out, as things can change throughout the season. Now all that’s left to do is grab your boots and enjoy everything fall has to offer! 

Pick Your Own Farms

Shuh Orchards
Located in West Montrose, Shuh Orchards is a fun spot for a classic fall day. During apple-picking season, you can head into the orchard and pick your own apples while taking in the beautiful fall scenery. There’s plenty to keep you busy beyond the orchard, too, including tractor wagon rides, a corn maze and a petting zoo. Whether you’re bringing the kids or heading out with friends, Shuh Orchards is an easy choice for a fun fall afternoon. 

Snyder’s Farm 
Just a short drive from Kitchener, Snyder’s Farm is a go-to spot for pumpkin picking. Their 16-acre pumpkin patch has plenty to choose from, including classic jack-o’-lantern pumpkins, mini pumpkins, specialty varieties and colourful gourds. The pumpkin patch is free to explore, and wagons make it easier to bring your picks back. You can also turn your visit into a full day with a corn maze, hayride, farm attractions and a seasonal treat from the Red Barn Bakery. 

Downey’s Apple Farm 
Downey’s Apple Farm in Breslau is a great place to spend a crisp fall day picking apples. Their pick-your-own season runs from late August into the fall, with different varieties ready to pick as the season goes on. Grab a bag when you arrive, head into the orchard and fill it with fresh apples before having your haul weighed at the end. Downey’s also offers pick your own wildflowers: indulge in the joy of selecting the freshest blooms to take home with you. PYO flowers are available until the frost hits!

Benjamin Tree Farm 
Looking for more than just pumpkins? Benjamin Tree Farm, located just outside of Waterloo, is packed with fall fun. Their pumpkin patch features orange, white and specialty pumpkins, along with gourds, squash, mums and other seasonal favourites. Once you’ve found your perfect pumpkin, stick around for the other activities, including a kiddie corn maze, tractor rides, bounce pillow, playground, pedal carts and farm animals. It’s the kind of place where you can easily spend a whole afternoon enjoying the season. 

Fall Harvest Farm 
Fall Harvest Farm in Wellesley is a great stop for picking up pumpkins and squash for all your fall decorating and cooking. You’ll find plenty of classic favourites alongside unique and colourful varieties that are perfect for adding some personality to your front porch. With so many shapes, colours and varieties to choose from, it’s a fun spot to browse the fall harvest and find something special to bring home.
