Experience Level: Intermediate/Moderate, due to distance, mix of terrain (50% paved trails and roads and 50% unpaved trails), some short sections of on-road cycling with traffic. Hybrid, gravel, or mountain bike recommended.

Route Description: On the Classic Grand River Loop riders will experience the best of trail riding in Waterloo Region, including access to city amenities, bicycle friendly restaurants and craft breweries, while quickly entering the tranquil green spaces and trails along the Grand River. Starting in bustling Waterloo Public Square, ride the Iron Horse Trail along the new ION light rail line as you travel south, winding along a lush green corridor through parklands and residential neighbourhoods. Stop at unique and welcoming trailside cafes, restaurants and breweries and the Ken Seiling Waterloo Region Museum – Ontario’s largest community museum – showcasing Indigenous and settler history of the region. Cross the Grand River and marvel at the Pioneer Memorial Tower. Follow the Walter Bean trail as it continues along the Grand, returning to the city centre via residential neighbourhoods and the Dom Cardillo Trail, linking back up with the Spur Line Trail that will lead you back to downtown Kitchener and uptown Waterloo.

Parking: There is free weekend day parking available in a variety of City of Waterloo lots.
