Day 1: 2026 Waterloo Region Women’s Municipal Campaign School

The Waterloo Region Women’s Campaign School is back for 2026, and Day 1 is designed to help you answer one honest question: Should I run?
This is a free, non-partisan half-day experience for women at any stage of thinking about local politics — whether you’re nearly certain or just starting to wonder.
You’ll spend the afternoon with women who’ve been exactly where you are — and came out the other side with clarity, confidence, and a plan. We’ll cover the real picture of what elected office looks like, walk you through the nomination process, and give you the practical starting points you need to take your next step.
Opening & Icebreaker with Bardish Chagger, MP
– Keynote: Why Run (Now)? with Waterloo Regional Councillor Colleen James
– Panel: Why I Ran & What I Learned – Candid stories from women who took the leap
– Panel: The Reality of the Role – An honest look at what the job actually involves
– Clerk Session – Everything you need to know about nominations, rules, and deadlines
– Closing Power Talk: Should You Run?
This event is for you if:
– You’re curious about running but not sure where to start
– You want to hear real, unfiltered stories from women in local politics
