IRL (Irish Real Life) presents Celtic Music School – Accompanying tunes at Irish Trad Sessions
March 14 @ 3:00 pm - 5:00 pm

The Bodhran and the Guitar are popular instruments used to accompany tunes at trad sessions. Tunes played on whistles, fiddles and mandolins are great, but they take on a new life and energy when accompanists are there to provide support.
In this special 2-hour workshop, Les Starkey (bodhran) and Bob MacLean (guitar) come together to review the basics you need to accompany trad tunes.
In this workshop, we’ll cover:
Session etiquette – Do’s and Don’t’s
Pay what you can. $25 minimum suggested.
Who’s leading the set?
Bodhran core techniques
Role of bodhran
Role of guitar
Importance of “listening” in the session
Going beyond the notated chords
Tune types – Tips for accompanying
Playing together – We all serve the tune
