Two Row on the Grand
July 23 @ 12:00 am

This is a 5 or 10 day paddle journey of reconciliation and cultural resurgence, starting in Cambridge, culminating at Lake Erie, with Chiefswood Park at Six Nations being the halfway point.
Together, about 100 Indigenous and neighbour paddlers build community: paddling, portaging (4x over 10 days), camping, eating and sharing cultural and environmental teachings. Learning from the river and the Haudenosaunee culture, we embody the teachings of the grandfather of all treaties, the Two Row Wampum.
Each day we start with breakfast provided, taking down tents which are placed in a truck for transportation and gathering our gear and vessels ready for launch. Then we share the Words Before All Else, aka the Thanksgiving Address, thanking every part of creation for continuing to fulfill its role in creation, and sustaining us. After hearing the logistics for the day from Safety Paddlers, and with our minds together as one, we launch. Sometimes we stop for a catered lunch, sometimes a picnic lunch is provided for a floating lunch. We generally paddle no more than three hours at a stretch, with pauses for rest, hydration and reapplication of sunscreen. When we reach our destination, we find our camping gear ready to set up. Sometimes we will have a teaching before our catered supper, sometimes afterward. At some locations, a campfire is permitted, with stories and songs before bedtime.
