Elmira Wagon Rides offers FREE wagon rides from the Waterloo Central Railway train station to the downtown core of Elmira and back. It’s a great opportunity for visitors of the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market to take a short trip to explore what Elmira has to offer. Hop on the Waterloo Central Railway train and take in the scenic ride between St. Jacobs and Elmira. The downtown core is about two kilometres from the train station in Elmira, making Elmira Wagon Rides a convenient option for transporting visitors back and forth.
Take a trip through Mennonite Country the old fashioned way!
A 1948 model tractor with a passenger wagon will be waiting as visitors depart all three Waterloo Central Railway train rides (trips leave from the St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market at 10 a.m., 12 p.m., and 2 p.m.) on Thursdays and Saturdays from October to May, as well as Tuesdays throughout the summer months.
While in Elmira, visit the many local shops along Arthur Street, including Kitchen Kuttings, a locally-run store with a wide variety of specialty food items, including homemade jams, pickles, preserves, both Canadian and imported fresh-cut cheeses, homemade summer sausage, old fashioned fudge, brittle and a range of specialty local food. The idea behind offering the wagon was that of Elmeda Weber, co-owner of Kitchen Kuttings, who, along with Waterloo Central Railway and the Elmira BIA, have generously sponsored the wagon in order to make it easier for visitors and train passengers to get in and out of the downtown core.
When visitors are done exploring all that Elmira has to offer, they can conveniently take the free wagon back to the train station for their return train journey.
