Standing 18.9 metres high along the banks of the Grand River, the Waterloo Pioneer Memorial Tower commemorates Pennsylvania-German pioneer settlers who came to Waterloo Region between 1800 and 1803.
Built in 1926, the tower features local fieldstone, a distinctive Swiss-style copper roof and a Conestoga wagon weather vane, reflecting the heritage and farming traditions of the early settlers. A Classified Federal Heritage Building, the tower is an important landmark and symbol of the Region’s history. Visitors can explore the surrounding grounds, view the tower and its architectural details, read the commemorative plaque and enjoy the picturesque riverside setting.
