Silver Creek Nursery: Growing a Deliciously Edible Future
Tucked into the countryside near Wellesley, Silver Creek Nursery is a family-owned and operated fruit tree nursery with a big vision and deep roots. Since 2009, they’ve been growing much more than apples and pears—they also specialize in rare and heritage berries, vines, rootstock, scionwood cultivars, nut seedlings, and more. Every plant is nurtured with purpose, supporting a polyculture ecosystem where biodiversity thrives and the practices are as natural as the surroundings: no chemical sprays, no treated seed, no Roundup, and no GMOs—ever!
Owned and operated by Steph and Zack Muma, Silver Creek is part orchard, part research farm, and part edible adventure. With a small but mighty team of six, they grow, test, and sell a wildly diverse mix of fruit and nut trees, berries and bushes, and unique plants like paw paws, almonds, figs and various edible tubers such as sunchokes (also known as Jerusalem artichokes). Their bareroot apples, pears, plums, peaches, cherries, quince (a pear-like fruit) and apricots are specially curated for our Canadian climate! Whether you’re looking for traditional cider apples or that nostalgic variety from Grandma’s backyard, chances are they’ve got it.
Silver Creek’s annual Fruit Tasting event – held during the Canadian Thanksgiving weekend – lets visitors participate in interactive fruit tasting stations, attend hands-on cider-pressing demonstrations, enjoy fruit-infused beverages, local vendors and more.
What fuels the team at Silver Creek? A passion for sustainability, food sovereignty, and reconnecting people with the land. Being part of Waterloo Region’s rich patchwork of tech innovators and small farms inspires them daily. It’s a place where curiosity and creativity take root—and Silver Creek is proud to be part of that story.
