Seasonal Traditions and Sweet Corn: Herrle’s Country Farm Market
What started in 1964 as a small roadside farm stand run by Howard and Elsie Herrle has grown into one of Waterloo Region’s favourite family-run farm markets.
For six generations, the Herrle family has continued to work the land and run Herrle’s Country Farm Market with hands-on care and community pride. Founder Elsie is still actively involved, along with her children Karen, James, and Joanne, their spouses, and now the next generation of grandchildren. Add in their dedicated staff, and you’ve got the energetic team behind a vibrant farm and retail operation.
Herrle’s is best known for their many varieties of delicious sweet corn, picked fresh daily in season and sold in the farm market. They are also a must-visit destination in early summer for their fresh strawberries. You can pick up a quart, basket or flat of these field-fresh favourites, or bring your family for a Pick-Your-Own (PYO) experience in the strawberry patch! Herrle’s also grows their own rhubarb, peas, beans, squash, and pumpkins, and their farm market overflows with even more fresh Ontario produce. There are also locally sourced meats and cheeses, preserves, and pantry favourites. The aroma of freshly-baked goods including homemade muffins, granola, and cookies and will greet you as you enter Herrle’s. Freshly baked pies, breads and buns round out their bakery offerings.
“Our favourite part of being a food producer?” says Michelle Herrle. “It’s growing and sourcing the flavours of the season—and sharing all of them with our customers.”
Herrle’s Country Farm Market is open daily from early June until October 31. Drop in for a taste of the season when you head out on the Fields & Flavours Trail.
