Baskets of Apples and Bushels of Charm at Shuh Orchards
Shuh Orchards in Elmira is more than just an apple farm—it’s a family story rooted in resilience.
While the Shuh family has been farming the land since 1918, their apple orchard was planted just over a decade ago. In 2013, the year after planting 60,000 young apple trees, a devastating winter wiped out nearly 13,000 of them. It was a make-or-break moment for the orchard. “We needed to guard ourselves against the notion of giving up,” Robert and Lisa Shuh, who own and operate the farm, say. “We didn’t give up—and we’re so glad.”
Today, Shuh Orchards is best known for its Pick Your Own (PYO) apple experience, and their crisp, juicy Honeycrisp apples – which are a visitor favourite! Most of their apples are processed locally at Martin’s Family Fruit Farm, but the on-farm PYO experience has been growing steadily since 2019.
Tim Shuh, Robert and Lisa’s son, is now apprenticing as the farm’s manager, bringing fresh ideas to the agritourism side of the business. Beginning in 2025, visitors can look forward to even more seasonal fun—think wagon rides, pumpkins, gourds, a petting zoo with sheep and goats, homemade pies, cider (hot and cold), and even a corn maze.
With guidance from his parents, support from their seasonal team, and the expertise of lead grower Dave Brown, the whole operation runs with heart and teamwork.
“What I love most,” says Tim, “is when visitors ask how we got started. It makes the whole thing feel personal—like we’re building something meaningful together.”
Whether you’re picking apples, sipping cider, or exploring their new offerings, Shuh Orchards is a sweet stop on the Fields & Flavours Trail.
