Earth Sciences Museum

Admission is always free, making it a great stop for families, curious kids, or anyone looking to discover something new while exploring Waterloo Region.

Budget-Friendly Local Experiences

Farmers’ Markets
Waterloo Region has no shortage of vibrant farmers’ markets that make it easy to talk directly to the people who are growing the food you love. From the long-running Kitchener Market in the heart of downtown, to the historic Cambridge Farmers’ Market and the famous St. Jacobs Farmers’ Market, each offers its own mix of fresh produce, baked goods, meats, and handmade items. In the warmer months, smaller seasonal markets also pop up across the townships, adding even more opportunities to browse local vendors, enjoy live entertainment, and pick up fresh, affordable food in a lively community setting.

The Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery
📍Waterloo

Art lovers should add the Canadian Clay & Glass Gallery to their Waterloo Region itinerary. Located in Uptown Waterloo, this unique gallery showcases contemporary ceramic, glass, and enamel art from artists across Canada, and best of all, admission is always free. Wander through rotating exhibitions, explore the permanent collection, and discover beautiful handmade pieces in the gallery shop. It’s an easy and affordable way to spend an hour or two.

Visit the Gaslight District
📍Cambridge

If you’re looking for free entertainment, check out the Gaslight District in Cambridge. Throughout the year, the public square hosts a variety of free events, including live music, outdoor movie nights, community festivals, pop-up markets, and sports watch parties on its giant outdoor screen. Even when there’s no special event, it’s a great place to stroll, relax on a patio, and enjoy the atmosphere. Be sure to check the event calendar before you visit to see what’s happening during your trip.
