The da Vinci Dialogues ft. Professor Luca Cottini

In this presentation, Luca Cottini, Professor of Italian Studies at Villanova University, explores how Leonardo da Vinci's mindset, methods, and inventions continue to shape Italy's culture of innovation more than 500 years later.
Through connections to the objects, drawings, and artworks featured in Leonardo da Vinci – 500 Years of Genius, attendees will discover how Leonardo's ideas influenced generations of Italian innovators. The lecture traces his enduring legacy through pioneers such as Edoardo Bianchi, inventor of the modern safety bicycle; Corradino D'Ascanio, designer of the iconic Vespa scooter; Fabio Taglioni, legendary Ducati engineer; and Federico Faggin, creator of the Intel microprocessor. Together, these stories reveal how Leonardo's approach to creativity, engineering, and problem-solving continues to inspire technological advancement.
The presentation also examines how Leonardo's fusion of art, science, and practical invention provides a framework for understanding Italy's distinctive culture of entrepreneurship and "Made in Italy" design. By bridging creativity with functionality, aesthetics with engineering, and tradition with innovation, Leonardo's vision remains deeply embedded in contemporary Italian industry and design.
