First, the bad news: it’s the final long weekend of summer 

Now the good news the Labour Day Weekend is full of fun things to see and do in Waterloo Region, so grab your mask and get ready to have some fun! (Make sure to check each website below for full event details, specific dates and times). 

LABOUR DAY WEEKEND IN WATERLOO REGION 2020 

 1Snyder’s Family Farm

Visit this fun, family farm this fall in a safe, physically distanced way. Book a campfire with your bubble, or book a two-hour visit for farm fun attractions that include a physically distanced 5-acre corn maze, animal barnyard, jumping pillow, giant peddle cart track, and so much more! 

2. St. Jacobs & Aberfoyle Model Railway

St. Jacobs & Aberfoyle Model Railway is an O scale model railway depicting southern Ontario in the late 1950’s. They will be running 1 hour shows daily, with a maximum of 30 persons per showing.  More details are available on their website 

3Waterloo Regional Labour Council Free Drive In 

Enjoy a FREE Labour Day Drive-In double feature: Call of the Wild, and Pride! Donations will be accepted for the United Way. Bring your own refreshments and settle in for some movie fun! 

4One last “Wild” Adventure at African Lion Safari

Bundle up your little monkeys, and drive through African Lion Safari’s game reservesYou can also explore their walking area, visit Pets’ Corner area to see lemurs, squirrel monkeys, macaws, toucans as well as their Birds of Prey Conservation area.  Travel down Tusker Trail to see flamingos and some of their Asian Elephants! Tickets must be purchased in advance. 

African Lion Safari

5Growing Hope Farm 

Feed a baby goat, collect eggs, purchase food grown on the farm, do a scavenger hunt and so much more at Growing Hope Farm. Due to Covid-19 they are only allowing 20 people on the property at one time for one hour only. Please arrive on time so you can enjoy your full hour on the farm. Advance tickets required. 

6Tour Castle Kilbride 

Castle Kilbride has re-opened, and is offering 40-minute guided tours of this 1877 grand Victorian mansion. Tickets must be purchased in advance.  

7Drive-in Entertainment at On the Grand

Catch Despicable Me and Uncle Buck at Bingemans new drive in theatre. Bring your own snacks, or order treats when you buy your advance tickets to the show!  

8Play with Clay at the Clay & Glass Gallery

Play with Clay is starting up again Saturday, September 5th! Explore the world of clay in this fun and engaging beginner pottery session. Come and discover the basics of hand building and decorating, no experience necessary. All ages welcome, dress for mess! NOTE: The Clay & Glass Gallery AHome kits are also still available for purchase it you’d prefer to Play with Clay at home!

9Mini Golf – Family Classic

Challenge your family to some mini golf at Bingemans at their first ever Family Classic! Your ticket includes 1 round (18 holes) of mini golf per person; then head up to Boston Pizza to enjoy your pizza selection. 

10Tour the Orchard at Appleflats

Appleflats is the only crabapple focused orchard in North America. Join hosts Glen and Alex Smythe as they explore a modern experimental orchard. Guests will be provided with an assortment of local snacks, as well as a complimentary crabapple product to take home. This is a ticketed event.  

11‘Mantracker’ at Conestogo River Horseback Adventures

Thrill seekers love the feeling of their heart pounding in their chest while in the middle of an adventure. Imagine that feeling as it rises exponentially while being chased down on the trails – Mantracker style! Available weather permitting. 

12Waterloo Take-Out Style Rib Festat Waterloo Brewing 

Northern Heat Rib Series comes to Waterloo Brewing – take out style! Preorder your ribs by September 3rd and pick them up at Waterloo Brewing parking lot on September 5th between 11am-1pm. As a bonus they will also have a beer drive through available for those looking to have some brews with their BBQ! 

13Art Fresco Public Art Project

Let someone else do the cooking this long weekend: enjoy dinner at any of the 50 restaurants and patios taking part in the Art Fresco Public Art Project! Each location features a picnic table that has been hand-painted by a local artist and transformed into a beautiful work of artIt’s a unique way to celebrate our region’s amazing culinary and arts scenes! Discover where you’ll find the tables here.
