Fall in Waterloo Region is packed with festive charm – and a few things that go bump in the night! 

Whether you’re in search of pumpkin patches and cozy family outings or you live for the adrenaline rush of haunted houses and ghost walks, Waterloo Region is bursting with October energy.  

Here’s your ultimate guide to spooky and seasonal fun in Waterloo Region. 


Classic Fall Fun: Pumpkin Patches, Corn Mazes & More 

Snyder’s Farm  
A fall favourite for families, Snyder’s Farm is bursting with seasonal fun. Pick pumpkins, take a wagon ride, get lost in the corn maze, and treat yourself to fresh from the oven baked goods including their famous cinnamon buns and fresh-baked pies. Add on a Snyder’s VIP Campfire Experience – the ultimate private experience for a group of friends or family with breath-taking country views! Your campfire is lit and stoked for you – and the s’mores are included! 

Pumpkin Palooza in the Village of St. Jacobs 
The charming Village of St. Jacobs comes alive with the spirit of the season on Saturday, October 25th at Pumpkin Palooza – it’s going to be a spooktacular good time! 
Watch for Halloween events throughout the village, including pumpkin carving and trick-or-treating. There will be live music, lots of activities for the kids, and big kids can take in special savings as they shop throughout the village. Costumes encouraged! 

Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival
This annual event – held on the last Saturday in September – is one of the premier autumn festivals in Ontario. The small village of Wellesley welcomes 30,000 visitors who come to enjoy the festival’s country charm, and to sample traditional flavours including apple fritters, pancakes and sausages, home baking, and of course Wellesley brand Apple Butter and Apple Cider.
The Wellesley Apple Butter and Cheese Festival also features an antique car and tractor display, a variety of craft and food vendors, tours of area farms and the local apple cider mill, and live entertainment throughout the day.

Fall Festivities along the Fields & Flavours Trail 
The Fields & Flavours Trail is your invitation to explore Waterloo Region’s unique, delicious, and down-to-earth farm experiences. For fall, that includes solving corn mazes, picking your own pumpkin or apples, or just savouring Waterloo Region’s fresh fall flavours. Highlight stops along the trail for fall include Fall Harvest Farm, Good Family Farm Pumpkins, Shuh Orchards and Herrle’s Country Farm Market.  


Not-So-Spooky Seasonal Fun 

Spirit Market at Homer Watson House  
Kitchener-born artist Homer Watson was drawn to spiritualism from a young age—an interest that shaped both his creative work and personal beliefs. The annual Spirit Market at Homer Watson House & Gallery (a National Historic Site) pays homage to his exploration and practice of spiritualism.  Join other enthusiasts and take in spirit-themed vendors and workshops. From crystals, tarot cards and art, to devilishly tasty treats, there is something for everyone!   

Halloween Digital Light Show at The Old Post Office, Cambridge
In 2018, the City of Cambridge installed a digital projection system to display light shows on the façade of the historic Old Post Office building located at 12 Water Street South in downtown Cambridge.  These popular shows change seasonally – including the special Halloween Digital Light Show which runs nightly (Thursday to Sunday) on the half hour from 7-8:30pm. Want to add to the Halloween vibes? Tune your car radio to FM 92.5 to listen to the music that has been choreographed with the show!

The Rocky Horror Picture Show 50th Anniversary 
Join the original ‘Magenta’ – Patricia Quinn – for a 50th anniversary screening of the original unedited ‘Rocky Horror Picture Show’ with a live shadow cast and audience participation at Centre in the Square in Kitchener! There will also be a memorabilia display with artifacts including an actual costume from the movie, a costume contest, and more! This is a full audience participation event – prop bags are included with your ticket! 

Día de los Muertos in Downtown Kitchener
Día de los Muertos is a day to honour and remember loved ones through music, food, art, and tradition.
Downtown Kitchener invites you to be part of the celebration on Saturday, November 1st from 11am to 8pm. Start your day at the Kitchener Market for ive music, entertainment, family-friendly activities, and more. Join in the Community Parade at 2 p.m. where everyone is welcome to walk in a colourful and musical procession from the Kitchener Market to Kitchener City Hall. Following the parade there will be live music, vendors, altars (ofrendas), food, performances, and cultural activities into the evening.


Frights After Dark: Haunted Houses & Scary Stories 

Bingemans Screampark  
When the sun goes down, Screampark at Bingemans comes alive with pure horror. With multiple haunted attractions, live actors, and cinematic-level scares, this is one of the biggest and most intense Halloween experiences in Ontario. Looking to extend the experience? Book a Screampark Camping Experience and spend the night just minutes from all the horror – if you dare!! 

Fear Farm  
This legendary haunted farm experience features seven terrifying attractions. Fear Farm offers terrifying trails, haunted hayrides, and immersive horror zones. It’s a scream-worthy destination for anyone brave enough to face the dark side of fall! End your night with a VIP Campfire experience that includes a Fast Pass for front-of-the-line access to the haunts, and food that can be ordered and delivered right to your site! 

Ghost Walks at Castle Kilbride  
Take a walk on Castle Kilbride’s eerie side. This tour through the former home of James Livingston (known as Canada’s Flax King) features frescoes from an artist who should have been dead, playful kids throughout (including Castle Kilbride’s resident spirit!) and haunted antiques that have found their way back to the Castle. Tour with a costumed guide as they present an out of the ordinary adventure. Participants are secluded inside the castle with their guide – creating the perfect environment for haunting experiences!

“The Dark Side of Galt” Evening Walking Tours
Put on your comfy walking shoes and join this evening stroll through the past, exploring stories of disasters, hauntings, and other unsavoury events that are part of the make up of the Galt district of the City of Cambridge’s dark history. The tours take place October 3, 10, 17 and 24, and begin at 6:30 pm and 7:00 pm sharp. Each walk runs for approximately 90-minutes and starts and ends at McDougall Cottage in downtown Cambridge. Advance tickets required. This walking tour is suitable for ages 14 years + .

Misery at the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse 
Drayton Entertainment is one of Canada’s most successful professional theatre companies, with seven theatres throughout Ontario – three of which are located in Waterloo Region.  
This fall, the St. Jacobs Country Playhouse is staging the thriller ‘Misery’. Based on the novel by Stephen King, Misery is a nail-biting cat-and-mouse game that will have you at the edge of your seat right up until its suspenseful and indelibly memorable ending.
